Reflections on my Round-The-World Trip and
Thoughts on How You Can Achieve
Your Own Dreams and Aspirations
I just finished a wonderful trip round-the-world. Yep! I didn't believe what
that young kid, Christopher Columbus said that the world is round. So, I had to
test it myself!
The trip was First Class round the world---something that was important for me.
And no, I didn't use frequent filer miles to do it. I didn't even fly my
regular airline. I went on the One World System flying American Airlines,
Qantas, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern Airlines (ugh!), British Airways, Ryanair
(where every seat is first class!!) and finally back to American Airlines from
Chicago to Orlando.
The world is getting smaller all the time. I find that people are pretty much
the same everywhere you go. They want to live their lives, enjoy their lives,
take care of their families and live without hassle and interference. I see
governments around the world getting more and more in the way of people and not helping.
No, the answer is not to "throw the rascals out." We have been trying
that for years---centuries. Perhaps it is time for human beings to live their
own lives, in their own ways doing whatever they want---as long as they don't
harm someone else. I wish I would have come up with that concept first but John
Locke beat me to the punch in 1643 when he said that each person should live
their life as they want as long as it doesn't interfere with others doing what
they want. Sounds reasonable to me!
Technology has given us great opportunities now to do more than ever before. As I did my video traveling around the world, you should think about what it is
that is going to excite you and make for wonderful memories and fun. This is
for you and only you can decide it for yourself. Think about the great things
that you want to do. Make your plans and then go for it.
Life goes by much too quickly. We often live thinking that we have a lot of
time. Then something can happen to let us know how fragile life really is and
how we need to live it to the fullest each day. Seize each moment of each day.
Yes, Carpe Diem (or however you spell that phrase for "Seize the Day!").
Enjoy the videos. As you see me bouncing around and having fun around the world, I encourage you to have a great time doing those things that help to make you a better person. Become the very best that you can and want to be. Don't hold back. This is not a dress rehearsal. It is time to embrace life fully.
I left Orlando, Florida (my home) and kept heading west. In the process I spoke
in Tampa, visited Los Angeles, California, then bounced over the pond to Sydney,
Australia. There I spoke and had meetings. Then flew Virgin Blue to Melbourne,
Victoria. Qantas got me back to Sydney where I went on to Bangkok, Thailand and
saw the Grand Palace and had a marvelous time relaxing and meditating.
From Bangkok it was up to Fukuoka, Japan via Hong Kong and Taipei. Fun ride and
I had a lot of good sushi, sashimi and sake!
From Japan it was over to see what is going on in Shanghai, China. What an
exciting city filled with great opportunities. Not perfect, but it has a lot of
good going on that everyone should see now.
After Shanghai, I headed up to London for some meetings, then on to Liverpool
for more meetings. Also got to see the Beatles Museum (sorry, no videos as they
prohibited that in the Beatles Museum and I honored their request).
From London it was over to Dublin, Ireland for more meetings and speaking at the
Guinness Storehouse (yeah!). What a great time that was to see the wonderful
Irish people and learn more.
Enough of the type, you will enjoy the videos I shot as I went around the world.
However, more than just a "Slide show of my vacation" I want you to think about
how YOU can do something that is really important to you. More on that later.
For now, check out the videos and see lots of the world and what is going on ---
-at least from one guy's point of view.
Here are a few of the vidoes directly that you can use to access them.
The link should take you to a page where the video is located (just click on the
"Play" button) and you can read about it on the text below (scroll down on teh
page a bit).
These videos are displayed here in reverse order from the end of the trip to the beginning. Be sure to watch all of these as you'll get to "tour the world" via my own video camcorder. Enjoy!
Here is the final video, from Dublin, Ireland. This one shows the Guinness Storehouse in downtown Dublin. You'll also get to see some examples of technology and hear Brian Matthews, the President of the Professional Speakers Association of Ireland, talk about Guinness and some amazing facts about the company. Here's one from England with Amanda Clark --- getting petrol in the UK and
seeing Stratford-on-Avon, home of William Shakespeare (he wasn't there that
day!) http://tinyurl.com/opbqk
Here's one I did when in Shanghai, China. Very interesting place and lots going
on there. See my "live on the street" video --- http://tinyurl.com/l2xet
Here's the video on Bangkok, Thailand. What a great country it is! Wonderful
people (as you'll see on the video) and lots of good bargains!

See what new, innovative marketing McDonald's is doing in Australia. This is not just a warning to Starbuck's but something for you and me to think about in our own work. http://tinyurl.com/genw7
Speaking for the Victoria Chapter of the National Speakers Association of
Australia (NSAA) in Melbourne: http://tinyurl.com/pjhp6
A fun video getting gasoline (OK, petrol!) in Melbourne, Australia with one of
the founders of NSAA and Marketing Guru, Winston Marsh. In this video you see
him getting petrol and then I shot some video of the two of us recording his
monthly audio proram, Business Marketing. Watch the video to see the recording
in process--recording live in the studio!!! http://tinyurl.com/gnm7o
Here is one of my experiences in Sydney. This one includes Jim and Naomi Rhode,
also professional speakers, who had some challenges of their own in Sydney.
Learn a key lesson here on how to adapt even in hard times when out of your own
country!
